Territorial exploration, video by Javier Gutierrez

Love Difference has initiated a process of knowledge and action regarding the territory of Friuli Venezia Giulia, detecting in the Gorizia – Nova Gorica reality a context absolutely relevant regarding experimentation of practices linked to open participation planning and intercultural relations.

The first step of this process was to question and compare the visions of the inhabitants of the territory, collecting from this, elements for a common planning.

From this, a workshop of interdisciplinary planning was organised, aiming to involve professionals mainly coming from Friuli and Slovenia, from the fields of cultural mediation, art, education, sociology and architecture.

The goal was to intersect the points of view coming from different people in different disciplines, belonging to the two different cultural identities and comparing them within the territory. These same people were destined to create an in situ reference group for the activation of new relationships within the surrounding context.

The main theme of the workshop was to answer to the question “What to co-operate on?”; highlighting possible shared planning avenues, in order to enhance the cultural, environmental and productive contexts, through a method focused on inter-disciplined creativity

It had been an important opportunity to pragmatically experiment on the re-definition of traditional cooperation practices, so important and often belittled in this context, starting from the enhancement of creativity and skills of each participant in order to build together a group with a shared aim and language.

The group analysed the territory of Gorizia – Nova Gorica, conceiving it as a physical, social, emotional and perceptive field. The goal was to understand the territory’s limits which are linked to separation and the potential from relationships and comparisons between people and very different socio-cultural realities.

Guidelines were also developed for possible projects regarding: direct interventions on the territory and tools for territorial politics in order to enhance the context, beginning with culture and relationships.

The work developed during the workshop as regards the phases of analysis and projection, will continue, keeping up the active collaboration between Love Difference, the public organisations and people who took part.

The workshop was realised through collaboration between Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia and Modidi, it was led by Filippo Fabbrica, Chiara Piraccini, Juan Sandoval (Love Difference) with the participation of the artists Stefano Boccalini, Artway of Thinking, and the psychologist Ezio Scatolini.

The workshop participants:Marilena Cipro, Alessia Cividin, Lisa Castellani, Leone Contini, Valeria Cozzarini, Luigi Di Dato, Javier Gutierrez Rodenas, Michele Drascek, Cristina Imbro', Matjaz Kramar, Lucia Maracci, Claudio Meninno, Vanja Mervic.

ABSTRACT: RESULTS OF THE WORKSHOP

The work developed together has led to a common VISION (download in PDF format) of the context, focused on the value of the conflict based relationship that links the two communities of Gorizia – Nova Gorica, and on the potential for connection that is embedded in the territory.

The planning phase was based first of all on the re-definition of traditional cooperation practices, with a PROPOSAL (download in PDF format) of activation of a cooperation workshop extended to members of public administrations and professionals, in order to reconsider the cooperation on the basis of pragmatic experimentation of terms like: trust, reciprocal support, positive interdependence and democratic management.

This workshop constitutes the opportunity to develop a plan of action on the territory involving local parties such as institutions, democracy agencies, private and public associations, neighbourhood committees, schools and free thinkers.

Moreover, guidelines for possible projects were developed regarding: artistic urban paths, ethno-anthropological forums, posters for the diffusion of information, light and sound installations.
