In 2006 Love Difference organizes a programme of operational conferences dedicated to the residents and open to the public, involving international personalities of the artistic-cultural field: the collective Artway of thinking, professor Yudhishthir Raj Isar of the American University of Paris and Anne Bamford, Director of the Engine Room at the Wimbledon College of Art.

12th-13th July 2006
step 1 - process:
"Shared creative projects for the common good",
held by Artway of Thinking

Artway of Thinking is a cultural association founded by Stefania Mantovani and Federica Thiene.
Social, community, relational art is based on observation and listening of the context and of the community living that context.
The relations with local subjects are a creative potential to transform and regenerate the context.

From the introduction to the Artway of Thinking's method:

"The cultural product is the result of the process of loving, when it is considered as knowing and giving value to something that one may have or consider (in this case, giving value to history and to the contemporary resources of the city, to collectivity and to the individuals), when the object is considered for its originality and specificity, that people have to respect and to increase.
“Creating culture”, today, can be traslated with “giving space to the individual expression in collectivity”; teaching to express ourselves and living in group, speaking with the differences of the other (cultural, professional, ethnical...); stimulating the recognition of the value people already have as individuals, as citizens of their city, of their own geographical area, etc..., connected with the contemporary “global”view.
For our personal projectual approach, “culture” is seen as a good whose value comes from the ability of being contextual and innovative as well; it’s seen as a contemporary and original development of thought and languages, of specific individualities and collective qualities; it’s a concrete task, that’s visible and liveable in the fabric of the city (urban, social, economical, natural).
L et us intend: the quality that a city or a territory can produce and offer through a cultural project can not only head for indicators of success that could be substantial for an intellectual critic (i.e. appreciation by the authorized staff); this will rather be the consequence of the main goal, that must be: to increase the emotional values of the cultural project.

To increase the cultural good means to invest in subjects
Tthe cultural product is the result of tha act of love
Tthe translation of creating culture is “giving space to the individual expression in the collective”

24th October 2006
step 3 - evaluation:
"L'impatto delle arti nella società",
conferenza tenuta da Anna Bamford

Professor Anne Bamford is the Director of the Engine Room at the Wimbledon College of Art, University of the Arts, London.
She presents here her research about the impact of arts in education, with a specific attention to the evaluation of a project: did the project reached its aim?

Short abstract of the conference:

"In 2004-5 UNESCO in collaboration with the Australia Council for the Arts (The Council) and the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA) commissioned research to establish the impact (if any) of arts-rich programmes on the education of children and young people around the world. This research provides a baseline for arts and cultural education around the world. The findings indicate that the arts make a valuable contribution to the total education of children and young people especially in relation to academic performance, well-being, attitudes to school and perceptions of learning but that the character of arts education varies considerably from country to country. Furthermore, the scope and breadth of the arts and cultural education around the world differs quite considerably. This presentation will highlight key aspects of quality in terms of global provisions for arts and cultural education. It will also draw attention to specific case studies currently being undertaken in the United Kingdom, Denmark, France, Korea, The Netherlands and Belgium. These national studies will be used as a reference point for examining directions in arts and cultural arts education and will propose the set of qualities required for effective arts and cultural provisions. Furthermore, methodologies for evaluating impact of the arts will be highlighted."
