On October 7th, 2008 Michelangelo Pistoletto unveiled
his huge permanent installation “Mediterranean – Love Difference”
in the entrance hall of the new centre of the municipality of Bologna,
in the presence of the mayor Sergio Cofferati and of Marco Cammellli,
president of the Fondazione del Monte.
The installation, which measures almost 5mx9m, is placed along the entrance
stairs. Polished mirror steel panels, that reflect the people, are assembled
in the shape of the Mediterranean with the writing “Love Difference”
        in colored letters over it.
Michelangelo Pistoletto explains his new installation like “the
public and encounter space adapt not only to the closest relations but
also the most distant ones. Loving the difference means meeting different
cultures and civilizations, something that leads to a capacity of encounter
and cohabitation. In today’s societies there are always more people
coming from different part of the world. They enter becoming part of our
communities and are reflected with their tastes and their histories of
ambition and needs. Differences are ancient values that can communicate
        with today’s values”.
Love Difference was also present at the official inauguration, that took
place on Saturday 11th of October with a big celebration, including speeches,
        music and performances.
