Mediterranean Carpets

Mediterranean Carpets in Paris for Dix-sur-Dix Festivorum, September 18th and 19th 2010.

"Mediterranean Carpets", an idea by Michelangelo Pistoletto and Love Difference, is elaborated by different artists and produced by different people, in different places, using different techniques and materials.

The first 10 carpets, ideated by Gudran for Art and Development, made by the community of El Max fishermen’s village in Egypt, have been exhibited and presented in Murcia at the Festival S.O.S. 4.8 and shown as part of the special set up of Cafè Love Difference at Île de Vassivière Art Centre, France.

A new activity has been carried out by Love Difference in collaboration with Aliaa El Gready of Gudran: the four day (15th to 18th October 2009) workshop “Never ending textures – Let’s build together a Mediterranean Carpet” at the Degustibooks space at Fortezza da Baso, in the within of the Festival della Creatività in Florence.

Draft artworks by Sandra Mariotti for the Mediterranean Carpet

The public has been involved in the creation of a Mediiterranean Carpet; the aim was to reshape the Mediterranean through emotions and feelings people have about the Mediterranean. Children, students, adults, housewives, everyone was invited to sit down and leave a message (written or handcrafted), which afterwards was sewed on the carpet or placed in hidden pockets.
Love Difference thanks all the participants for their kind contribution, we had a lot of fun working with you!

Special thanks to: Charlie Cole, “Regina” Rosanna d'Ambrosio, Sandra Mariotti, Federica Thiene, Eva van Tulden, Alex Parrado and Mariantonietta “Etta” Vizzi.
