Building houses with Intifada’s stones
Building houses in developing countries and in places hit by natural calamities and conflicts, will be easier and more economical, thanks to a special procedure realised by the International Centre for Science and High Technology of Trieste. The procedure permits to make half-processed materials using soil, stones, and rubble. The project, reported by on-line paper Vita, has been illustrated in November 2004 at Ics by Mr Leonardo Nhanala, consultant in the High Technology and New Materials Area, in a talk on Strategies for low-cost housing in human settlements in developing countries. Mr Nhanala, from Mozambique, who is the “father” of application of technologies in Third World housing, said that the need of building in a quick, economical way is becoming even more urgent in the Third World. Moreover, in Countries affected by natural calamities and conflicts, there is the environmental problem of rubble. Ics developed tested and certified technologies to use stones and rubble in producing half-processed materials for housing. This procedure, moreover, needs conventional machinery, which can be produced locally. The first step of the project will take place in Palestina, while other projects are to be launched in Mozambique and India.
