MINItransat boat for Emergency launched in Venice on 19th February. Love Diffrence Tour sailing in summer
At the presence of Teresa Sarti, president, and Gino Strada, founder of Emergency, and of the skipper Giovanni Soldini, the project “a sail for peace, a sail for emergency” was presented by VentodiVenezia on Saturday 19th February. The MINItransit type boat was launched in isola della Certosa (Venice), at the nautical site of VentodiVenezia, which had just opened after restoration works. The boat will take part in a number of regattas, promoting in the next months the culture of peace and Emergency’s activities in war zones.
The crew on board in 2005 regattas will be: Alberto Sonino (skipper), an athlete from Italian National Sail Team (Tornado), former world champion HC18, now working in team on Giovanni Soldini’s Trimarano; Tiziano Rossetti, sailing teacher experienced in long-run regattas; Raul Pantaleo, experienced sailor, Emergency’s logistics engineer in Sudan (see LDN#6).
Together with the sporting activity, the crew will carry on the promotion of peace activities in the regatta’s port, in collaboration with local Emergency groups.
Tiziano Rossetti and Raul Pantaleo will also sail in the next months in the Love Difference Tour, holding the courses of main migration routes in the Mediterranean. In summer 2005 they will hold the busy course between Libya and Italy, reaching ports in Malta and Tunisia. Aim of the tour is to get close to the reality of the immigrants and to try to understand more about the phenomenon than it is possible through reports in television and newspapers. In every port a series of artistic actions and cultural events will take place in every port, in accordance with the Love Difference ideal. Starting from these interventions, the Love Difference boat will become an artistic and inter-cultural archive.
