Sfeir-Semler Gallery branch in Beirut re-opened after the bombing
After an extremely hard summer for all Lebanese, Sfeir-Semler Gallery announces that its Beirut branch did reopen: public can now visit the ongoing exhibition “Moving home(s)” which had to be closed because of the war. LDN published a short presentation of the exhibition on contemporary nomadism in issue 48. (LDN#48)
The gallery branch in Hamburg (Germany) will open the season on the 8th of September with a show by Lebanese artist Walid Raad, “Let’s Be Honest, The Weather Helped”: an exhibition of works (completing and doubling his project, The Atlas Group) including photographs from the series titled ‘We decided to let them say “we are convinced” twice. It was more convincing this way’ (2006), and the videotape titled “We can make rain but no one came to ask” (2006).
In early 2006, Raad revisited (eerily foreshadowing recent events) photographs he produced in 1982 during the invasion of Lebanon.
