Love Difference Joins the petition for Jafar Panahi
Jafar Panahi is the Iranian director of "The White Balloon", written together with Abbas Kiarostami, and of "The Circle", which criticized the treatment of women under Iran's Islamist regime, and won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2000. In December 2010, the Iranian director, along with another director, Mahamad Rasoulov, was sentenced by a Tehran court to six years in prison and banned from directing or producing films, from leaving the country and having any contact with the press for 20 years.
Love Difference joins the call in favour of Panahi and Rasoulov and invites to sign the online petition calling for the immediate annulment of the conviction. The petition was first signed by the Festival de Cannes, the Cinémathèque française, the Locarno International Film Festival, “Cahiers du cinéma”, the Venice International Film Festival and thousands of institutions and individuals.
