59 Films and 7 Workshops in Shashat’s 4th Women’s Film Festival. Palestine, 1 November – 7 December 2008
Shashat’s 4th Women’s Film Festival, titled “Daring, Amusing and Ambitious Films by Palestinian Women Filmmakers”, will take place from November 1 – December 7, with a major film tour in Palestinian universities and cultural centers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, which includes 59 screenings, so as to promote film viewing and women’s cinema among the largest number of Palestinians, especially youth.
Shashat teams up again in this 4th edition of its festival with its 2 long-term partners, An-Najah National University in Nablus and the Bethlehem Peace Center, as well as with an additional 9 universities. In addition to the screenings and as has become customary in each festival, Shashat will hold 7 workshops. These are day-long “Documentary Film Day at Palestinian Universities” workshops for media students at Palestinian universities which will be conducted by Palestinian women filmmakers. These workshops aim to promote artistic documentary production as well as encourage girl students to become directors in their own right.
Shashat’s Women’s Film Festival in Palestine is the only ongoing annual women’s film festival in the whole Arab world.
