Seventh Mediterranean Social and Political Research Meeting: Florence, 22-26 March 2006
The Mediterranean Programme was inaugurated in 1999 as part of the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS), which is the policy-oriented arm of the European University Institute in Florence (EUI). The general policy focus of the Programme is that flows of persons, goods and ideas between and within the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western Mediterranean play a fundamental role in the dynamics at work in the area , and that a thorough understanding of these phenomena is vital in order to contribute to the general Euro-Mediterranean policy debate. The 1st Mediterranean Social and Political Research (MSPR) Meeting took place in March 2000. The Meeting has now become a major gathering for social scientists working in the area. The Annual Mediterranean Meeting is organised around a core of up to 15 Workshops, each run by 2 Directors and with 10–12 participants. Workshop participants present and discuss papers containing original research, prepare joint publications and strategies for continued collaboration. Workshop topics and directors vary from one Meeting to another and are chosen on the basis of competitive calls. A few workshops are jointly organised with institutional partners. The Meeting will take place from 22 - 26 March 2006 in Florence and Montecatini Terme and will bring together more than 150 scholars from the Middle East & North Africa (MENA), Europe, and elsewhere.
