Eliminating Distances, Maintaining Differences: the first Festival of the Differences open in Biella, 23-25 September 2005
The first edition of the Festival of the Differences represents a platform for dialogue in order to explore, share, and live differences as a positive value, in every aspect of the local and global context. The event will take place in Biella – Italy – 23, 24, 25 September, offering musical events, exhibition, performances, cinema, and international meetings. A city at its best in order to feel, see, taste, and live the differences. Differences are seen as values enriching the life persons and the territory. The Festival of the Differences, with the participation of international scholars and experts, is the starting point of a great event, founded on the value of the differences and open to the creativity of those who live their territory: cultural, intercultural, scholastic and university institutions and associations, single citizens, artists.
The manifestation is organised by the City of Biella, Cittadellarte - Pistoletto Foundation, the Province of Biella, the City Campus Città Studi and in collaboration with Love Difference. Among the events, on Friday 23 the opening of "People of Biella", an exhibition of the artist Julia Trolp; "Free knowledge makes the difference" – a net-meeting round table, with representatives of institutions, associations and enterprises in Italy, Argentine, Venezuela and India; "Everywhere but Nowhere", an installation by the artist Haessen Chung. Saturday 24, "Different economies: the value of the differences ", a meeting of experts presenting new value systems as pragmatic alternatives to consolidated economic models. Speakers: Luca Fantacci, Felipe Perez Marti, Genevieve Vaughan, Majid Rahnema, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Eduardo Dominguez. Moderators: Roberto De Battistini and Francisco Bernabei.
