When art funds art: Pistoletto and Sollima
at Risonanze # 3. Rome, Auditorium Parco della Musica, May 29 - June
15 2009
The Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome will host from 29
May to 15 June 2009 "Risonanze # 3", curated by Marcello
Smartelli. The exhibition, sponsored by Accademia of Santa Cecilia,
is on the theme of the confrontation between art and music in a continuous
play of references and suggestions; two artists - Pistoletto and Sollima
– have been invited for their love for Mediterranean roots,
love for differences and for the theme of the double, which emerges
as a common predominant element at the basis of their work. For Michelangelo
Pistoletto “the double” is the result of the reflection
in the mirror, while Giovanni Sollima, playing the cello, the musical
instrument which is the most similar to the shape and size of the
human body, realizes the relationship with his own “double”
through the act of embracing the cello, which becomes his alter ego.
Risonanze #3 will be a new opportunity for Pistoletto to present Love
Difference Project, whose symbol is a a mirroring table reproducing
the shape of the Mediterranean, surrounded by the chairs from the
countries facing the sea. Next to the table, the Cupboard of the Mediterranean
will be presented, a physical and symbolic space to place documents,
realities, perspectives, desires and fantasies, that will be filled
with food and other elements to witness tastes and flavors of the
Mediterranean. Pistoletto realized for the event at Accademia Nazionale
di Santa Cecilia a special design (100 copies edition), which will
become one of the benefits reserved for Art and Music Plan subscribers.
The live performance by Giovanni Sollima will include the execution
of several songs, including Concerto Rotondo, from a work of' 1998
titled "I Canti" and inspired by sacred and profane, metropolitan
and rural rituals from the Mediterranean area.
During the exhibition, at the Mondello Gelateria in Piazza Regina
Margherita in Rome the public can taste the Love Difference ice-cream.
