Call for paper for CDIME conference “Moving
on: embodiment in transcultural music and dance education”.
Deadline: May 15 2006
The Cultural Diversity in Music Education
(CDIME) network is organising its next conference in Rotterdam, the
Netherlands, on December 13 to 17. CDIME is an informal network of
organisations, musicians and teachers working in the field of transcultural
music teaching. The conference is reflective and practical at the
same time.
Today more than ever cultural similarities and differences, gaps and
bridges, are defining our ever-shrinking global communities. Arab
themes weave through a blend of Afro-Cuban and Indian rhythms. In
terms of diversity, we have come a long way. Also in music and dance
education where all kinds of styles can be found at all levels of
education. However, it seems that with the incorporation of world-wide
styles into our music and dance education, the adventure has only
just started. We do not only see questions of authenticity and methodology
arising, but also identity and creativity in a transcultural and sometimes
hybrid society.
The programme committee seeks proposals for presentations (papers,
workshops, concerts and multimedia presentations) that address one
or more of these issues. The conference targets a broad range of education
levels, including community arts. Authors and publishers are welcome
to present source and education materials, instruments, etc.
Abstracts of 200-300 words, plus a short CV should be sent to: CDIME
2006 Programme Committee, by the 15th of May 2006.
