Unveiling of the work by Michelangelo Pistoletto & Love Difference at the University of Antwerp
On Thursday May 11th, Michelangelo Pistoletto’s installation “Mari Mediterranei del Mondo” ("Mediterranean Seas of the World”) will be unveiled. The project, realized for the new premises of
the Political and Social Sciences University of Antwerp, shows painted on the ceiling of the architectural space, six maps of the different "Mediterranean Seas” present in the world: the Baltic Sea, the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, the South China Sea, the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The message “Love Difference” runs throughout the entire ceiling in the different languages of the depicted countries.
Another event will take place on Wednesday May 10th from 5 p.m. in the reception-rooms of the "Nationale Bank van België", (entrance Frankrijklei 164, Antwerp) at the University of Antwerp: Love Difference and Cittadellarte will present the artist book "Michelangelo Pistoletto and Cittadellarte. The table of the cultures". The aluminium made mirroring book (ldn#26) illustrates the six "dining tables of culture", tables in the shape of the seas in-between land, that unify populations, nature and cultures, in respect of their reciprocal differences. The volume, published by Fondazione Pistoletto Onlus editore and Edizioni Corraini in the occasion of the homonymous exhibition which took place at the Civic Gallery in Modena, from September 2005 to January 2006, has been printed in a limited edition of 700 copies; every copy is signed and numbered personally by the artist.
