“Flight 405”: Mediterranean
identities at the Gallery Sfeir-Semler, in Hamburg and in Bayrut
The Sfeir-Semler Gallery, based in Hamburg,
Germany, announced the opening of a new branch in Beirut, Lebanon.
The Lebanese gallery will host a part of the “Flight 405”
exhibition, which opened in Hamburg on Thursday 31st of March. The
show will open in Beirut on the 9th of April.
Love Difference will participate with the Mediterranean-shaped mirroring
table.
“Flight 405” is a project featuring the various aspects
of “identities” concerning the concepts of the local and
the global, with a specific focus on the Mediterranean Sea and /or
the Middle East. Invited artists created new works, specifically for
the two shows. Works in Hamburg are different from those to be shown
in Beirut, but have a direct link to the same concept : they complete
each other. Participating artists either have a biographical connection
to the Arabic countries and /or to the Mediterranean context or have
done works with a direct link to the region and / or to Lebanon .
The artists are: Michelangelo Pistoletto, the Atlas Group / Walid
Raad (a Lebanese conceptual art group based in New York and Beirut),
Elger Esser (a German photo artist from the Becher Class), Alfredo
Jaar (a Chilean concept artist based in New York), Emily Jacir (a
Palestinian concept artist based in New York), Amal Kenawy (a young
Egyptian artist living in Cairo), Till Krause (a concept artist from
Hamburg), Hiroyuki Masuyama (a Japanese artist based in Tokyo and
Düsseldorf), Akram Zaatari (a video and photo artist living in
Beirut, Lebanon ).
